The Hugh Gorge Trailhead is the official start point for Section 6 and is located at the southern end of the scenic Hugh Gorge just off the banks of Hugh River. It is the most remote trailhead on the Larapinta Trail. A new trailhead shelter was built in 2015 (image on left). This trailhead is difficult to access by vehicle. Requires high clearance 4WD.

Alice Springs to Hugh Gorge Access Track Turn Off is approx 56 km west of Alice Springs via Larapinta and Namatjira Dve. Hugh Gorge is located 22.3km from the T/O along a high clearance 4WD only track.
