The scenery along this section varies ( much of it quite nice), but most of this section has flat and undulating terrain the whole way. Mulga Camp is a nice little camp ground if you have the time to divide up this section and camp here. Spring Gap to Jay Creek and the high ground in between is quite scenic. Jay Creek Trailhead facilities are excellent.

Getting to Simpson Gap Trailhead
Access to Simpson Gap is via the sealed Larapinta Drive and can be accessed by conventional 2WD vehicle. Its is approximately 18km west from Alice Springs, and a further 6km off the main road. Simpsons Gap is open to vehicles between 7am and 9pm. No vehicle based camping is allowed. However you can park your vehicle here overnight.
Getting to Jay Creek Trailhead
The Jay Creek Trailhead is about a 76km from Alice Springs, half of which is 4WD only. It takes about a couple of hours to get there from Alice Springs via the Tanami Road and the Old Hamilton’s Downs track. The Jay Creek car park is about 4km from the trailhead. However, you can actually drive within 1km of the trailhead to the Park gate (which is locked) but this track is a little rough.
